Creating a New Presentation

To start a new presentation, you typically go to File > New > Presentation. You can choose to start with a blank presentation or select from pre-designed templates. Templates provide a consistent look and feel, saving design time.

Adding and Managing Slides

  • Adding a New Slide: Go to Insert > Slide or right-click on a slide in the Slides Pane and select 'New Slide'. You can also use the toolbar icon.
  • Duplicating a Slide: Right-click on a slide in the Slides Pane and choose 'Duplicate Slide'. This is useful for creating slides with similar content or layout.
  • Deleting a Slide: Select the slide in the Slides Pane and press the Delete key, or right-click and choose 'Delete Slide'.
  • Reordering Slides: Click and drag slides in the Slides Pane to change their sequence in the presentation.

Saving Your Presentation

Saving your work regularly is vital to prevent data loss. Use File > Save (Ctrl+S) to save changes to an existing file, or File > Save As to save a new file or save an existing one with a different name or format.

  • Default Format: LibreOffice Impress saves files as .odp (OpenDocument Presentation).
  • Other Formats: You can save presentations in various formats, including .ppt/.pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint), .pdf (Portable Document Format for easy sharing), and image formats for individual slides.

Exam Tip:

Remember the keyboard shortcut for saving (Ctrl+S) and understand the difference between 'Save' and 'Save As'. Know the common file extensions for presentation software.
